Waves after the Typhoon

July 29-Aug1
Location: Baler and Borlongan in Aurora
Surf 6: Storm Surf

I call this the Storm Surf because typhoon Juaning just ended and reports say that typhoon Kabayan is to come.

Right after my work, had a quick lunch in Galleria then went straight to ES Transport in Cubao to catch the bus headed to Cabanatuan. By 130pm the bus left. Around 430pm arrived Cabanatuan and transferred to a van going to Baler. It's my first time to try this. I always ride Genesis bus which travels straight to Baler. Van is the next best alternative if you fail to ride the Genesis trips since they only have morning trips. The only hassle part of the trip was a kid got dizzy and vomitted inside the van! By 8pm finally reached Baler, my home break.

The tent was up right in front of Charlie Does. The night was still young so we had some boozing before going to sleep. Nothing beats beer sa sand!

The next morning, Nikir woke us up. She had a chillax Joy-Bus ride together with Nadine. We had our delicious breakfast especially prepared for us by Kuya Wendel at his home. Thank you also to Ate Marilyn, their daughter Wenalyn and the rest of the family for welcoming us.

Morning surf at Lobbot. If there are no waves in Sabang, you will definitely ride some in Lobbot. We openly embraced the heat of the sun! Luckily we found a shaded spot and started gearing up. Surf's up! I enjoyed the long rides.

We couldn't resist not having an afternoon session in Sabang. So we hit the line up before leaving for Borlongan.

An hour and a half travel to Borlongan, certainly less if we rode an SUV. We were hopeful to catch some waves there but then it was flat. I'm pretty sure waves here could be wildly strong and high during typhoons because of the cautionary tsunami signs I saw on our way. The place was perfect nonetheless for bonding and relaxing. We pitched our tent while Kuya Meng prepared the bonfire. It was getting late and we had to fill our stomachs, so half the group left to buy whatever, while the rest stayed behind.

We were lucky to have bought isaw, red eggs, tomatoes, 1kg or rice and hotdogs. We didn't have cooking utensils with us so we chanced ourselves to the Barangay Captain's house if she could allow us to cook our food. She gladly welcomed us to her home and even lent us plates and utensils to bring with us in our camp site. Salamat Kap! It was already dark, on our way back bought a case of booze.

At the camp site the rest of the group were relieved we were all safe. They couldn't contact us because of signal scarcity. We were all starving so chow time! Food was great. Eating in the dark wasn't bad at all. Fun jamming right after. I loved the countless alitaptap! What a heavenly sight. The night was so perfect plus having it spent with the best buddies.

The next morning, still no waves, thus we headed back to Sabang to have our morning sesh. Stoked. We couldn't miss our favorite sisig so we had our lunch in Cindy's. It was showering in the afternoon so we had to spend our last night in a decent lodging at Bahia de Baler.

Our last night was a blast! A kiddie party and jamming with local friends. We didn't want to attend the kiddie party anymore but then Kuya Wendel insisted that we come over. Good thing we attended. We're so blessed to have known Kuya Wendel, kindhearted and loyal friend. From kiddie party to a jamming night with local friends. Weeeeee! What a night-morning. Hahaha.

Another memorable surf trip has ended. I'll surely miss this one. And oh, I got a new board during this trip, a second hand one. I'll make a separate entry to introduce her formally :)
