Christmas Surf

Location: Baler, Aurora December 10-12, 2011 Surf 9: Christmas Surf I plotted in my planner to have a surf trip on this weekend. I don't know yet at that time who I'm going with. I thought I was surfing with Sons but then they bailed. It's the last month of  year 2011 and I have to keep my at least once a moth surf promise. So I told myself I'll surf even if I don't have anyone with me. I feel that it was Jess' plan to allow Mace and I to surf together. I got to know her thru a friend during an event in UP FA. For some random reason I texted her a week before this plotted surf trip and the next thing I know she'll be my surf sister for the weekend. Two girls gone surfing! We arrived in Baler with a gloomy weather and continuous rain. I expected it since weather forecast said there was a Low Pressure Area but I was still hopeful that Mr. Sun will come up. 3pm, it was still raining but we fought the cold weather and paddled out. Nice long rides! I

30 Days

Weeee I'm so happy, I can't contain the feeling. Finally got the reply from the company I want. Gave my resignation letter to my Team Lead yesterday. And now 30 days count down. Can't wait for January 2012, new year, new beginning, new life!

Song for the Suspect

Image
I'm in the Franco mood. This is the perfect beer sa sand song. When you're in the beach just staring at the stars, being with friends floating in the air of love! Another new day to understand as much as we can as much as we can understand our love We're high everywhere We float in the air We smoke and we float in the air of love    Ang galing lang ng Franco! I've seen him perform twice already this year and both in Baler.

Chill Saturday

November 27 Location: Hacienda Anonuevo Nothing beats beer sa sand! But city chillin' is the next best alternative. I missed November surfing. It's the third time I failed to surf. I had a promise at the start of the year to surf at least once a month. So yeah I won't let December pass without a surf! Friday night I was already psyched that I won't be able to surf, so I was thinking of places and people whom I can go out with on Saturday. Then a text message from SJ at 2:30am of Saturday inviting for a chill tambay at his place. Wohoo Jess you work in mysterious ways. I immediately replied GAME! Saturday night turned out so much fun. Catching up with everyone!

Lahat puede sa Kamantigue

Location: Kamantigue Beach (Pagkilatan, Batangas) November 12-13 TL: Patrick Ostrea ATL: Trixie Estomata Every dive has its own unique story and memories worth reminiscing about. Lahat puede sa Kamantigue is an addition to MBS' collection of epic dives. We've checked out Pagkiltatan, Batangas before and usually stayed in Aeres Beach. But this time we set camp in Kamantigue Beach.  The area was very chill. They have kubos, electricity, decent shower and toilet. We had two dives lined up. Dive 1 was very beautiful. As soon as we had our shore entry, we saw how colorful the reefs were. While some were skin diving, Patrick, Ivan and Kuya Mark checked out the drop off SCUBA diving. Dive 2 was back in our camp site. Swam all the way to the grotto. It was a smooth swim going to the grotto and relatively a short-distance swim. It was still as alive and colorful when we last dove in there. The next day we went to Ilijan Falls. 10-15 minutes trek and you witness yet another

Work to Surf

Image
October 15-17 Surf 7: Work/surf life balance This surf episode was one of a kind. I was with my colleagues. I told them that I surf in Baler and they asked me to take them with me. I did. It thrills me to have surfing shared with people. It's my 5th month working. I'm accounting my income monthly and bulk of my salary goes to my love for surfing. I had this promise at the start of  year 2011, I will surf at least once a month. So far I missed September and another month which I can't recall. Expense was cut down because I don't have to rent board anymore. All I have to pay for is my transpo and food. Lodging? Not a problem. I'm good in a tent. Surfing is not really an expense for me. It's a lifestyle. I don't even think about how much I've already spent for it. I only think about the highness and stoked feeling I get after every surf. That is priceless.  Balete Tree, with my colleagues Back Track: Surf 1 (niyugan) Surf 2 (soul surf)

Aloha Surf and Music Festival 2011

Image
Location: Baler, Aurora October 29-31, 2011 Aloha Boardsports and Travel Factor had their biggest Surf and Music Festival in Baler. There were a lot people who joined this much awaited event! And yess the concert for two nights was the highlight. Bands like Coffee Break Island, Pedicab, Franco and Wolfgang entertained the crowd! The surf competition was another highlight of the event. Congratulations to Juliette Sayoc, Champion of the beginners mixed tandem category. She wowed the spectators and made the whole Charlie Does Crew so proud of her! She dominated Heat 1 with her back side rides, pumping the waves all the way, which brought her to the finals. And oh she took home a Surf Betty board! Congratulations again Juliette you deserved it. Meet and greet her at Bahia de Baler where she works as the Manager. Photos by Aloha Boardsports

Good old times

August 20-21, 2011 Location: Baler and Lobbot Surf 7: Reunited Surfing just like good old time's sake! Now we have Cloch with us in the line up. Yeahoo! So much has happened. We almost got stranded in Lobbot because the vehicle failed to start after so many attempts. There was a nearby sari-sari store. We managed to have a satisfying pancit canton, sardines, and chichirya as our lunch. Then our imaginations got crazy and hoped there was a Kuya who happens to be a mechanic, sells rice, battery, atm machine and all other things we needed! After an hour or so, the vehicle cooperated and we were back in Sabang. Our dinner at... I would rather not mention it anymore was a disaster. Food was great no question about that. But service was bad. What a trip! We left Baler around 1am, Monday. Back in Manila, 7am was nearing. Color coding. We had to pull over and wait for the window time. Great. Happy happy trip. Waves after the Typhoon

July 29-Aug1 Location: Baler and Borlongan in Aurora Surf 6: Storm Surf I call this the Storm Surf because typhoon Juaning just ended and reports say that typhoon Kabayan is to come. Right after my work, had a quick lunch in Galleria then went straight to ES Transport in Cubao to catch the bus headed to Cabanatuan. By 130pm the bus left. Around 430pm arrived Cabanatuan and transferred to a van going to Baler. It's my first time to try this. I always ride Genesis bus which travels straight to Baler. Van is the next best alternative if you fail to ride the Genesis trips since they only have morning trips. The only hassle part of the trip was a kid got dizzy and vomitted inside the van! By 8pm finally reached Baler, my home break. The tent was up right in front of Charlie Does. The night was still young so we had some boozing before going to sleep. Nothing beats beer sa sand! The next morning, Nikir woke us up. She had a chillax Joy-Bus ride together with Nadine. We ha

The Frazzled Cook

Location: 916 Luna Mencias Street, Brgy Addition Hills Mandaluyong City July 10, 2011 I was searching the internet and chanced upon a unique restaurant called, The Frazzled Cook . The name itself made me curious what this restaurant has to offer. According to Dictionary.com, frazzled means worn out. Oh wow, a negative adjective to describe the place. I hope the food served there is not "frazzled". Right after the Sunday mass in St. Francis, Mom and I went straight to The Frazzled Cook for lunch. I had reservation two days earlier. Lucky to have occupied one of the four parking lots. Yes. They only have this much parking space, otherwise you'll have to park along the street. Finally got in the restaurant! What's unique about the place is the whole interior design. It's a residencial house converted into a restaurant. From outside you wouln't notice that the place is actually a restaurant, thus the phrase " I am a restaurant" placed on the glassed win

Step into Liquid

Image
Here's another one of my favorite surf documentaries. Step Into Liquid. Literally stepping into liquid is what surfers do. It's the best feeling ever. I don't know the right words how to describe or even explain. You have to try it yourself. Written and directed by Dana Brown. He followed three Irish brothers as they not only introduced some local kids to surf but also invited Protestant boys and girls to join Catholic kids for the lessons. As can be expected, the surfing footage is heart-pounding stuff; you’ll be amazed just how close Brown will bring you to the action. Slow-motion camera work elongates some of the most spectacular rides, and you’ll feel every wipeout as though it had happened to you. Dana is the son of Bruce Brown, who is the man behind the classic surfing documentary, Endless Summer.

Year 2

Image
May 14-16, 2011 Location: Baler, Aurora Surf 5: Balerinas Year 2 Balerinas started year 2009. There were only the four of us, Ayeen, Jean, Charmy and I. Then came Marie on 2010. Now on our Second Year we have new additions to our berkeda! haha. Welcome Anna, Kris, Ayi, Jali, and Princess. By 11am we were already in Baler. We had our room reservation at Bahia de Baler . Time for lunch. We ate at some karinderia near Mahdox surf shop. In the afternoon we went around Baler. ITINERARY: Balete Tree, El Pimentel Falls, Dam. I've never been to El Pimentel falls yet. When I got there, I wasn't that amazed. The Mother falls was much better. I wanted my friends to see the beauty of the Mother falls. But then the locals informed me that there's already an entrance fee plus a guide's fee. Tsk what happened? Market strategy? tskk. I'm glad though they enjoyed the three places we visited. Back to Sabang beach. SAD. Waves were small. Almost none. Managed to ride some though. Ever

Three

I can't believe it's been three years since Papa passed away. He died peacefully of tongue cancer, June 6, 2008. I was on his bedside in Medical City holding his hands minutes just before he died. It was a serene moment. I didn't even cry. He looked like he was just sleeping. I'm a papa's girl you know! I will never forget all the good memories we had together. I love you so much! I never failed to tell him how much I love him. And yess even until the time that he can't speak clearly anymore and pen and paper were our means of communication, he consistently showed momi and I how much he cares and loves us. Thank you papa for the wonderful years spent well with us! Oh and I'd also like to share how close to my heart the song "The Prayer" is. I made an AVP presentation for his wake and I used this song as background for the notes he wrote for us. I mentioned earlier that we kept a journal where he can write what he wanted to say because during his la

The Endless Summer

Image
The Endless Summer is a surfing documentary by Bruce Brown . He follows two young surfers Michael Hynson and Robert August around the world in search for the perfect wave. Watch this for a PRE-STOKED feeling before heading to your home break! I've watched it already it amazed me how surfing evolved from classic surfing to the different tricks done today. Boards and most especially fashion have evolved! Hahaha. Notice the shorts worn by the two surfers in this film! And yess di pa talaga uso gumamit ng leash noon. Hardcore!

Tutti Frutti

Image
Location: 4th Floor Atrium SM Megamall After hours of searching for the perfect top/dress with Joyce and Ate Macy, it's just fitting for us to rest our legs and have a yogurt treat! Tutti Frutti is a specialty frozen yogurt with over 100 stores world wide. With the various frozen yogurts available, it's really difficult to know which one is the best. But what stands out in Tutti Frutti is the concept of "do-it-yourself" yogurt. Yessss it's self-service. You can choose to have the original, coffee, strawberry, lemon, banana, and other flavors. For toppings, they have cereals, fresh fruits, different kinds of nuts, candies, marshmallows to name a few. You can also top your finished product with flavored syrup like chocolate, caramel. Now the big question, HOW MUCH? Depends on the weight, 20 pesos/oz! I tried their coffee flavored yogurt, topped it with rice crispies, wall nut, crushed graham and white chocolate syrup! At 108pesos. Kinda expensive but it was good,

Hand and Foot Spa

Image
Location: Nail-it, Katipunan Mom and I had some pampering at Nait-it, Katipunan. I treated her using my hard earned money . It was my first time there so I had no idea what service to get. I availed their Package 1: hand/foot spa with mani/pedi at 480pesos while mom had the traditional foot spa at 300pesos. The whole treatment was nice and relaxing. The sweet aroma, background music and salon's interior added to the feeling of relaxation. For my manicure, I chose the color, "It's up blue", though it looked like color green. "Orly Platinum" for pedicure. My hands and feet are now smooth and soft as a baby!

BALERinas

The History May 2009 was my first time to see Baler with Ayeen, Charmy and Jean. We don't know anything about the place aside from what we've read from the internet. We went there expecting nothing. Little did we know that we'll be falling in love with Baler. The place was just so beautiful and relaxing. I remember we took the 5am Genesis bus. It was an 8-hour long most memorable bus ride. In Cabanatuan we met our "bespren" mani vendor. We were sleeping soundly when we were awakened by his style of selling mani. "Oh mga bespr en mani kayo diyan, may bawang. Kumain kayo ng m aning may bawang para di kayo maloko ng boyp ren niyo!" We couldn't hold our laughter. The third and last stop over was something to remember as well. The signage on the CR was very funny. 2 hours more before we arrive according to the conductor. Back in the bus we noticed a cute little boy and called him Shaolin kid! He was just adorable we couldn't stop laughing. Finally we

The Last Song

Image
The Last Song film starring Miley Cyrus and directed by Julie Anne Robinson. Nicholas Sparks was approached to write both the film's screenplay and the novel by the same name. Sparks completed the screenplay in January 2009, prior to the completion of the novel. The film's storyline follows a troubled teenager, played by Cyrus, and her estranged father, played by Greg Kinnear, as they reconnect with each other through music during a summer in a quiet Southern beach town. I didn't know I'd be able to relate to the movie until I was already watching it. I'm not as rebelious as Ronnie but yes I've made things to upset my parents sometimes intentionally. I think I will start playing again! I started playing the piano 8 years old up until I was in college. I stopped because I got sick of being pushed by my mom to always practice. But now I miss music. I'm beginning to feel the excitement I got when I first played. The movie had me crying also! I suddenly rememb

April 14, 2011 (Graduation Day) Location: Island Fish, Corner Visayas Ave. and Congressional Ave. Yeahay finally and officially graduated! So after the College Recognition Rites, off to have lunch in Island Fish. We ordered, Aligue Rice~~~~~~~ Crab sisig Tom yum soup ~~~~~~~~~~~~Ensalada with bagnet Masarap lahat! I wouldn't order Crab sisig though next time. Hindi siya fine eh, may mga soft shell na kasama though nakakain naman. Pero ayoko lang yung rough texture . Tom Yum soup was good also, not that spicy just right. I really enjoyed the Ensalada with bagnet. Yung dressing yung sobrang nagpasarap. May bagoong pero I think yung liquid bagoong gamit kasi walang remnants ng bagoong tapos may honey siguro kasi medyo matamis. Basta masarap! The whole place was very nice. Plus they also offer KTV. They have rates ranging form 1500 pesos to 2500 pesos

April fool's South Surf (Part 2)

April 2011 Location: Malabsay Falls and CWC in Camarines Sur Ok so I had an entry about my s urf in Da et (it's all written here, April fool's South Surf Part 1 ). It was a day trip surf. After getting high and stoked from surfing, time to travel back to Naga. Malabsay Falls The next day was all about Naga, Camarines Norte. In the morning we went to Mt. Isarog National Park. Mount Isarog National Park was declared as a national park since 1938, and harbors rainforest, endemic wildlife, waterfalls and is home to nomadic Negrito (Agta) tribes people. Mt. Isarog, an inactive volcano, rises in the heart of the province of Camarines Sur, the central part of the Bicol Peninsula about 450 kilometers south of Manila. It is the highest forested peak in Southern Luzon. (Visit Profiles to know more about Mt. Isarog) We didn't go to the peak of Mt. Isarog. We went to Malabsay Falls, a 40 foot high wonder located on the slope of Mt. Isarog. It took us 15 to 20 minutes trek to th

April 2011 Location: Naga, Camarines Sur/ Daet, Camarines Norte Surf 4 I never thought I'd be surfing in Daet anytime soon. I got an invite from James and immediately worked my way so my mom would allow me to go. When I finally got my mom's oh so sweet "yes", I got so hyped and excited for the trip. We took the Isarog Bus Line located behind Ali Mall, Cubao. They have different rates to choose from. We took the lazy boy bus. Fare costs 800pesos one-way. Check Isarog Lines for the daily bus schedule. You can even reserve seats online! It took us 8 hours to reach Naga City. 8 long hours but the ride was comfortable. Lazy boy yeah! Fell asleep soundly. We left around 930pm of Thursday and arrived 5.30am the following day. Yeah! Finally in Naga. Jed's mom fetched us from the bus station. After settling our things in their very chillax home, breakfast time. We rested for a while then off we went to Daet, Camarines Norte. It was a two-hour drive. We arrived Daet jus

Shems!!! Bakit sobrang totoo tong text message na to? OO.

Baler Surf Jam

March 17-21, 2011 Location: Baler, Aurora Surf 3 After exactly one week of stay in Manila, I travel back to my "home town". Five and a half hours of travel! Exactly 6am I was in Sabang already. I went straight to Charlie Does shop and spotted two tents. Good morning Reena and Karen!!! Yeahay. Surprisingly the weather was extremely cold and windy. The waves were choppy and no steady direction at all. That morning Ate Olive, Emil, Karen and I went to Ate Yvok's place to have ourselves registered for the competition. The whole day the weather condition didn't change so the competition was postponed. In the afternoon we forced ourselves to surf despite the cold weather. Brrrr what is tagos sa buto yung lamig! Managed to get a few rides even if the waves were not that nice. The next day March 18, right after lunch Baler Surf Jam competition pushed through. Mens open division first with 6 heats. Morning of March 19, Mens quarter finals was continued followed by the semi

Work things

Productive day today. I accomplished a lot of things. (1) Applied for NBI clearance, (2) Employment medical exam, (3) Applied for SSS. It was my first time to get NBI clearance. New applicants' NBI are processed in Victory Central Mall, Caloocan. Good thing I didn't get lost. Exactly 8am I began filling out the form. There were 6 steps to follow. (1) Have the form checked (2) Pay 115pesos for local employment (3) Finger printing (4) Photo (5) Encoding of data (6) Release of NBI Clearance. I anticipated the long line and accepted the fact that it will take half of the day to finish the process. Wrong! To my surprise, I went through every step in less than an hour. I really commend the NBI staff for the very efficient procedure. Mabilis lang talaga at hassle-free sana sa LTO ganun din! Good job! I'll write a formal letter to their office to express my great satisfaction to their service. Thank you NBI!

Oars Up

March 13, 2011 Location: Roxas Boulevard, Manila (Bay Walk) Manila Broadcasting Corporation Race It was the first race the UP Dragonboat Team joined for this year. It served as a practice race for the coming Boracay race on April. The team had entries for the mixed and mens heat. The mixed team was the competitive team as compared to the mens since all the members of the mixed crew are those who train regularly. Most paddlers in the mens heat had no training at all or had trained but weeks and weeks before. Ok so guess where I belong? The Mens team! Hahaha yes yes yes. I don't have any training at all. My last training was in January around second week. Why did our coach insisted that we join the race despite no training? Well to avoid having the mixed team load the mens heat as well. Energy and strength conservation. Mens heat loaded first. I was a little nervous. I don't know anymore if I still got the form! Hahaha imagine how many weeks without training, and then boom RACE T

Tinolang Manok

Feb 23, 2011 Location: San Luis, Aurora It was Ate Olive's day off so she insisted that we have a picnic at her farm. Kuya Wendel picked us up early morning and took us first to Ate Olive's house where we had our breakfast! Hmmm pure food's corned beef yummy. Off to the farm after filling our stomach. It was soo nice of her to invite us in her home sweet home and in her spacious farm! Woah! Ate Olive has a plantation of coconut, and papaya. She even breeds native chicken. Sobrang sarap lang tumambay dun. For lunch we had Tinolang Manok, not the ordinary manok. We had native chicken freshly slaughtered by Kuya Wendel and Kuya Mark. Ok napakasarap ng tinola. Malasang-malasa. The salu-salo was the best part. Eating with our hands while sharing stories, unbeatable. Fun moments doubled when Kuya Janggo, Allen, and Gregie arrived. Good thing they came because we were about to part the half-filled empi lights! Exagg to ayoko na uminom pagkatapos nun. James and Cloch were supposed

Soul Surfing

Feb 16-March 6, 2011 Location: Baler, Aurora Surf 2 I needed time to think and reflect on what to do with my life. A place far far away from the busy, fast-paced, polluted Manila. Where else? In Baler, where air is fresh, life is simple, and waves are always pumping. James' sturdy tent was my refuge for the first few days, the three of us--- Cloch, James and I. The supposed 3 days two nights Sons turned out to be a week-long escapade for them. Wahaha everything was just so spontaneous. Nakakatawa talaga mga pangyayari. Blasting sa bundok kaya walang biyahe ng bus! Napagakaisahan ng mga locals kaya na extend nang na extend. Laugh trip talaga gaguhan. I didn't dare camp alone, so when they left I stayed with Cloch's Aunt in Recto street. She has a boarding house there for girls. I'm so happy to have met her. She was so kind and accommodating. She even cooks breakfast before I head to the beach. I learned a lot from this trip. Realizations I wouldn't have discovered if

Love Dive

Location: Pagkilatan, Batangas (Feb 12-13, 2011) TL: Patrick Ostrea ATL: Trixie Estomata It was the most chill dive I've ever been to. Everyone met up in Jollibee Philicoa 5am. We had 4 private vehicles which made the trip even more chill! We arrived Pagkilatan past 11am, just in time for lunch preparation. More time to relax! Siesta was what we needed. The cold breeze left us all sleeping soundly. By 3pm, dive proper! Long long swim. Battled against the strong current. Endured the itchy stings. Swam through some dirt and oily areas. "No pain, no gain." Indeed! After all these, we spot a pawikan! Yeahooo. Dive site was very colorful. Marine life so healthy and diverse. Pawikan Video by Ayin Tamondong Socials at night! just a thought

‎ "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live life." Got this quote from Gelo Ostrea. So so true! Every detail that's been going on in our life is brought about our own choice. There's no one to blame but us if shit happens. Yes things won't turn out the way we expect at times. That's the beauty of life.

suntok

Last sem pa ko sinasama nila Ayin magboxing kaso hectice sched. Kahapon dahil sobrang mayaman ako sa oras madali ako nahatak. First time ever na mapasabak sa ganitong physical activity. Sa TV ko lang napapanood ang boxing tuwing may laban si Pacquiao. Ngayon masusubukan ko na. Binalutan ni kuya kamay ko tapos tinuro na ang mga basic. Tamang stance, jab, straight, hook, upper cut. Ang level up dun yung combination ng mga suntok na to. Pinanood ko muna sila Lia, Ayin. Wah! Ang intense ah lalo pag naririnig mo yung tunog ng suntok. Sinasabi ng trainer kung ano gagawin. Pagsinabi niyang Jab-Straight... gawin mo. Tapos pag sinabing tatlo= upper-hook-straight. Pag apat= jab-straight-jab-straight. Tag 3 rounds muna bawat isa. Bawat round 2-3 minutes ata. Tapos may pahinga na 1 minute. Woah ako na! Game face on. Hahah. Ansarap ng feeling sumuntok. Kakaibang high. Pagmaganda tunog ng suntok ko pakiramdam ko ang lakas lakas ko. Nalalabas mo yung galit, inis, lungkot, lahat ng negative sa katawan

On June 6, 1986, the first Johnny Rockets opened on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, offering guests friendly service and great food in a fun and nostalgic atmosphere. The place is very bright and lively. Old school music played on the jukebox as background. The waiters, superb service! They have a unique way of greeting customers. Once you enter, you will be accompanied by a waiter shouting "Hi guys!" as he opens the door for you. Then the rest of the Johnny Rockets crew greet you as well! Oh and they're all dancers! French Tip

Location: Robinsons Galleria It's my birthday so I gave myself some nail pampering! I've never had my nails done. There's no harm trying, so yeah why not! I was walking around Galleria hoping to buy items for myself when I passed by nail-a-holics. Without thinking I went in and checked the services they offer. There were a lot! From manicure, pedicure, hand/foot spa treatment, nail art, waxing, massage, nail and eyelash extensions! They also have packages where these services are mixed and matched. I availed their Sea Crest French Manicure service at 250pesos. Nail shaping, hand/wrist massage, polish, french tip. Veryexpensive for a french tip. The place was relaxing though. Couch was comfortable and the music played made fall asleep while getting my nails done. I won't be doing this on a regular basis though. I just tried it out! Service was ok, finish product also ok. I wouldn't say perfect. Just ok. I won't go back that's for sure. Nail-a-holics has vari
