Missing the surf

It's been a month since my last surf! I miss the waves and the gang in Charlie Does and the rest. Medyo mapusyaw na ako! Hahahah eeee not me! My tan lines are almost gone. One more month. Whew last push. For now study study study. Board exam coming up, and oh I have my final exam in masters (almost forgot about it). Ahhhh keri. Sharing this video clip of the surf last July. Waves were small but still had fun. We went to Dianed, an hour away from Sabang beach (read my post  River Flat )..   tribu surf nah from rommel lubguban on Vimeo .

The Legend

Image
1972-2013 Edmond "Janggo" Mendoza. Kuya Janggo to most people. He's one of the classic surfers in Baler, Aurora. It's such a blessing to have known him and have had close encounters with him. I will never forget that one jamming night in my soul surf in 2011. He shared a story of how he's been pushing his kumpari to learn to surf and eventually changed his life for the better. It's really heart breaking to hear his death. Another Surf Legend who will forever stay in our hearts. Thank you Kuya Janggo for being one of my surf instructors. I remember we had a surf sesh at secret spot and he'd signal me when there's an incoming wave. I'd paddle hard for it and ride it successfully. He taught me how to wall and really perfected it with his guidance. Thank you Kuya Janggo for being so welcoming and extending your hospitality by offering your home every time I go there. I'll never forget you.  Surfing can change one's life for the better.

The not so special Quezon City day

Aug 19, 2013 Quezon City Day Special non-working holiday for those working in Quezon City. Another long-weekend added to me but I'm not hyped at all cos really there's nothing to do but stay in. Sacrifice. Eyes on the prize mantra. Heavy rains from the night before until this morning brought by typhoon Maring, that classes were suspended and government offices as well. So technically almost everyone is one with Quezon City day.  Really hope this rain stops. I dread the Habagat and Ondoy experience. I don't want another episode of those.  Keep safe and dry!

River Flat

Surf 7 Flat Sabang July 13-14, 2013 Dianed, Aurora Ok so a day before the trip there were photos in Facebook on how waves were soo big and nice that day. I was hyped to go back to Baler, hoping that I'll catch those waves. Unlucky me! Saturday morning, July 13, Sabang was river flat. Why?? Huhu. But hey good thing there are a lot of spots in Baler. I went with Chino together with some lokals to Dianed, a surf spot, one hour or so away from Sabang by motorcycle. Yes! Endured the ass pain riding the motorcycle to surf. They say waves in Dianed can be as big as a house "ga-bahay" as what lokals would say but that time when we got there, waves were manageable. Not really nice, but there are good sets from time to time as compared to the condition in Sabang. So generally pretty stoked, I must say. We were the only ones at the line up. It's a reef break. Reefs were smooth that my feet can handle. There were also a lot of sea weeds. Eeeeky feeling when my legs get sur

Accept that you are enough

It really annoys me when a person pretends to be someone she's really not! And then I see this on twitter. Exactly what I'm thinking. Stop pretending and trying to fit in. Accept that you are enough. You don't need to be anything that you are not. — Wise Man Si (@WiseManSi) June 16, 2013

Ramen Cool

Image
June 6, 2013 25 West Capitol Dr. Kapitolyo Pasig It's been five years since Papa died. Time flies really fast. So anyway Momi and I heard mass that morning before going to the office. In the evening we had dinner at Ramen Cool. The place was nice but parking was a problem. They don't have enough parking space. Food was good. We ordered: Gyoza- P118 Beef Ramen- P215 Spicy Alaskan Duo- P195   Gyoza was like deep fried siomia. It's sauce is their very own gyoza sauce. Recommendable yes. Beef Ramen, is good for sharing. I didn't like it though. It lacks flavor. Spicy Alaskan Duo tastes really good! Food price and service not bad at all. I'll go back to try the other dishes.

I hope so...

Live The Search

Image
Surf 6 May 23-26, 2013 Isabela, Philippines This surf trip was months in the making. Thought it wouldn't push through because of a lot of changes until only three of us were left for the trip. But hey 3 is still a good number! Last minute changes and yiii ended to have 9 as a good good number! Boards loaded  Thursday morning all of us met up at Baler. We rented a van to take us to Dilasag Pier. And the ultimate Love.Risk.Surf.Live episode begins. 5 hours trip to Dilasag. We thought once we get there we could all leave for Isabela already. But no! We had to wait at the Pier for 13 hours! The long wait was bearable because of each ones company. Yeah. Fishing while waiting, SLEEPING, eating, SLEEPING. Boat ride to Palanan My bed for the trip       12:30am the next day Friday, we finally left Dilasag. 8 hours boat trip. Whew! What a relief that we got to our camp safely. Agenda for the day: rent a boat, visit Papa Jack's Tita Mary (whom he has never met)

Rushie's

Image
Surf 5 May 18-19 Baler, Aurora It's Ate Russiell's birthday on the 19th so I plotted my surf trip on this weekend. And what a surprise! Justine and Juris were also there. Wahines represent yeah:) Waves were not good to us though. Small sets and short rides. But I was happy to catch some even if paddle power is what it takes to ride it. Best time to surf there really starts September. Well there are other things to do even without the waves. Skate, food trip, gala trip, and just plain chill tambay:) Evening of Satruday was awesome! Party at Rada's, (well now called Rushie's Point). I need more time to get used to calling it Rushie's. Yeahay! Happy happy birthday Ate Russiell! Cold beer and yiii quality pancit, kaldereta, sweet and sour fish and CAKE:) Happy happy night. And what made this trip really touching was the fact that Sebastian now considers me his best friend. Yiii what a kyot kyot boy. Some photos from Juris. And oh I forgot to mention, Fredd

When it hangs

This morning I was updating my Facebook and Instagram and kept on switching from one application to another. When suddenly my phone hangs. I can't turn on the device and charging didn't help. I wanted to remove my sim card and poof some small piece comes off. Uggh. I panicked. I didn't know what to do. I was looking for the battery, cos I thought removing it would help but apparently Xperia Go has internal battery. I googled for "how to fix Xperia Go when it hangs" and a forum appeared. Whew! So here's the remedy. Press and hold Power +Volume up button for a while. It will vibrate once first and then thrice. Then power on the phone just as normal.   Voila!! It worked for me:)) Yiiii. I'm so happy.

Wavepool

Image
This was some time last year. I had nothing to do and I saw the one-day Surfcuit invite of Philippine Surfing Academy on Facebook. Club Manila East is 20minutes away from our house, so I headed there to try the surf even if I was alone. Yeahay! What a fun experience. Met new friends of course. Paolo Soler and Lorraine Lapus was there to assist us with the drills and the actual surf. We also had Aisa Locsin with us who led the yoga session at the beginning. That one day session I must say strengthened my arms! You have to paddle hard to ride the waves. It was really tiring but fun. Waves were consistent, so no time to rest. Gotta go, paddle hard, and ride or else you're left behind!:)

Alay dugo

Image
Surf 3 April 13-14 Met up with Zye and her friends at Genesis and yiii met Tita Diosi too, Fin's Aunt. It's my second time to meet her and it felt like we've known each other for so long. May lukso ng dugo kumbaga! I had to take a photo of us as proof to Fin that we really were together going to Baler:) So here it is... With Tita Diosi Around 7am we arrive Baler. My MBS friends were there ahead of me. I don't have a photo of them though :( But all memories are intact especially the card reading! What else to do but morning surf. You know it's not all about fun and the stoke. Accidents do happen and yiii it hit me! Not even an hour long of surfing, I got hit by Denden's nose. Huhu. Oh well. I didn't want myself stitched so I opted for the butterfly plaster. I've got good friends who went with me to the Reserva Hospital and waited for me as the nurse treated me and injected anti-tetanus. So yeah, no more surfing for the rest of the stay. But hey

Give love

"You are not to shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find and keep. The quickest way to find love is to give love. If you want it too badly, you will not find it. The most secure way to keep love is to give it space and care to grow. If you hold it too tightly, you will lose it." I had to r epost this. Bespren Trix tagge d me on this status. 108 Surya Namaskara

Image
Beyond Yoga, BGC Taguig I have been practicing Yoga for three or four times already together with Ayeen. Our barkada, Anna Manalastas just got certified last year so we're having private sessions with her. Two weeks ago she invited me to join the 108 Surya Namaskar, or the 108 Sun Salutations. It's a cycle of movements done 108 times. To know more about it you can read this link. As to why it is repeated 108 times, well the number has various meanings. It is the malas or the garlands of prayer beads come as a string of 108 beads. The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters. According to yogic tradition, there are 108 pithas, or sacred sites, throughout India. And there are also 108 Upanishads and 108 marma points, or sacred places of the body .
